It has roots back to the early centuries of the Christian Church and was established as a monastic practice by Benedict in the 6th century. This particular Lectio Divinafeatures a guide on using the book and a reading plan that takes you through specific scriptures throughout the church year. The book showcases a custom ornamented pattern that draws inspiration from the trusses throughout the Reality SF building, particularly in the main sanctuary (featured as a background image on one of the spreads). And by chance, these features lend themselves to creating the Reality SF icon hidden within the trusses' shapes, creating an even more complex story beyond the utilitarian use: the story of Reality SF is part of the building itself. This story continues throughout the journal: the core ornament can be decorative and structural, harkening back to the trusses. It turns into a pattern that can fill pages or fragments into distinct pieces of different sizes and weights, assembling a structure that harkens back to classical layout design. Capturing this shadow was actually happenstance; with it, the idea of something looming struck a strong chord with me. The shadow could be a metaphor for both a void and time that has passed. It sits in tension whether this shadowy figure is walking away or coming towards you, and this feeling of a hovering presence over something or someone, tying it back to the idea of a "protector." Fast Single Drive Too Fast is Scott Goldbaum’s first single from his album Protector The artwork is inspired by a line in the second verse: "We run in circles 'til we're out of line, No one to follow, to sacrifice." The artwork features stills from footage taken while dangerously driving down the 110 with my camera in hand. Another- Art Direction: Collaboration with Zach Schinella Café Gratitude has been a mainstay of the plant-based food industry in Los Angeles for over 10+ years. With plant-based dining rapidly becoming a norm, it was time to remind everyone that they were and still are a pioneer in the plant-based space. The goal was to make Cafe Gratitude more appealing to newer customers with a growing interest in plant-based eating while also maintaining the mindful and spiritual aspects of Cafe Gratitude that have been part of its brand since its beginnings. The goal was to preserve the story of being "rooted in real." Strategically that meant talking less about touchy-feely and more tangibility or clarity in ingredients with health benefits and not so much about the ethereal benefits. It meant rethinking things like the "Question of the Day" from restaurant engagements with servers to social media engagements with fans and lovers of Cafe Gratitude. The visual system was updated, grounding it into the earth—literally. The warm, earth-toned color palette combined with natural textures from sand/dirt and organically created shapes (an abstraction of vegetables and plenty) created a language of rootedness and abundance. It creates an editorial look, feel, and sound, elevates the Cafe Gratitude brand, and will keep looking fresh for years to come. The zine itself is a tangible signal that while there is a visual change happening, it also reinforces and reinstates to the employees that the internal culture of CG has not changed: to be rooted in real, whether that be with the transparency of our ingredients, and cooking, or with each other. Most of our working staff speak Spanish as their first language, so it was important that the zine would be bilingual because these people are the unspoken heroes of the restaurant.
